The Madness

I wrote this in a fit of frustration a while back last year..

I have recently read an article on CNN about ISIS (the Islamic State of Iran and Syria). It really saddens me to read about everything going on there. It opened my eyes as to what religion is capable of doing to the minds of wayward extremists. People being led by blind ideologies and hatred are spreading it all around the world. In the name of their religion they are justifying their heinous actions. That makes me wonder, about countries where there are no religions, countries where religions are banned in comparison to what is happening in countries where religion is taken to the extreme: is it actually better in any way? On one side there is North Korea which admonishes religion and any form of worship and is instead grossly violating all human rights in the name of power by a few people. There is endless amount of exploitation along with a cult like worship of its rulers. On the other side, there is Iran and Syria, where there is a mindless, unquestionable following of extremist religion, where all horrors are committed in the name of some teaching which is supposed to be imposed by a higher power.

Religion and atheism are both bad in their own way. Neither of them are bringing any peace in this world filled with strife. The hatred, prejudice and all other kinds of evils are becoming more prominent in this world. Where do we turn to find peace? where can we turn to find love? where can we turn to find compassion?

Although I have cited ISIS and North Korea’s dictatorship at the moment, there is so much injustice happening all around this world. In almost every corner of it, some evil is lurking. Much of it is based on religion or lack of values. This seems to be increasing day to day. As a young person it makes me wonder, where is this world headed? what have we come to? These thoughts scare me. As a young person. I want to do something. I can not stand by watching on the sidelines. There is an ever-growing restlessness inside me to do something about it. The article I read spoke about how those who were interested in joining ISIS have specific instructions on how to join and specific instructions as to how they can contribute to their cause. That makes me wonder, what can I do to support the cause of peace? What can I do to support the cause that is humanity? What can I do to support love and brotherhood and compassion and unity? Where do I sign up for that?

Now is the time we can do something about it. We don’t need fame or a recognition via a Nobel Peace prize like Malala to wake up and finally do something.

“Arise! Awake! Stop not till the ideal is achieved!” said Swami Vivekananda.

Let us not lower ourselves into a pit of ignorance, indifference and bigotry. Let us slowly dig this world out of the ditch that its in; grain by grain, pebble by pebble, stone by stone, let us dig this world out of its trench. We are constantly worried about what the Kardashians are up to or what Lady Gaga wore, which boyfriend Taylor Swift is on or how many followers JB has. As a world united, as human beings let us step aside from our narrow vision of what we consider important or what we consider to be our reality and take a look at the big picture of what is happening in this wold and what we can do to help.

Helping doesn’t mean, we fight and kill the others whom we deem our enemies. It doesn’t have to mean going on marches, rallies and protests either. This is what I have come to understand through spirituality. Praying for humanity really works. In the midst of chaos and noise; destruction and doom, maintaining the solitude of inner silence and peace, that is the greatest triumph of humanity that I can ever visualize. When we look inwards and not outwards, we begin to see humanity in its purest form, stripped down. naked. without barriers of any kind, realizing that all of us, deep down are one and the same, whether Muslim, Christian, Jewish, atheist, young, old, rich poor whatever. Just a couple of people praying together can create a substantial positive field of energy to charge the very atmosphere. Now imagine millions of people doing this, Millions of youth. It would be the the penultimate stance, the penultimate response to stand up against cruelty, injustice and hatred.

I pray that this world will know peace soon.
